Insulation Before & After in Sacramento, CA
Photos show what promises can’t. The difference between a 112-degree Sacramento attic and a home that holds its cool in July is hard to describe, but you can see it. We document our work at Woolsey Insulation Sacramento because the visual proof matters. Older insulation settles, compresses, and stops doing its job. Fresh insulation fills the gaps and levels the temperature. Here’s what that looks like in real Sacramento homes.
Recent Transformations
Attic Insulation Overhaul in East Sacramento
Before
AfterThe problem: a 1950s East Sacramento home with original insulation that had compressed to about two inches in most bays. The upstairs ran eight degrees warmer in summer. We vacuumed out the old material, air-sealed the top plates and wire penetrations, then blew Owens Corning fiberglass to a true R-38 across the attic floor. The result: the homeowner called back in August to say the upstairs finally matched the thermostat. Three days of work, one noticeably quieter house.
Spray Foam Insulation in a Land Park Bungalow
Before
AfterThe problem: a Land Park bungalow with a vented attic that pulled dust and pollen into the living space every afternoon. The homeowner wanted the attic sealed, not just insulated. We applied open-cell Icynene spray foam, a two-part liquid that expands on contact and seals the roofline airtight. The result: the attic became conditioned space, the dust settled down, and the air conditioner stopped cycling every fifteen minutes. This one was a full transformation, not just an upgrade.
Settled Insulation Replacement in Natomas
Before
AfterThe problem: a Natomas home built in 2003 with insulation that had settled from fourteen inches down to roughly five. The ceilings registered 91 degrees in July afternoons. We topped off the attic with Johns Manville blown-in fiberglass to restore the full depth and level out the low spots. The result: ceiling temperatures dropped to near ambient, and the air conditioner ran about forty percent less. In Natomas, we regularly see this pattern: homes from the early 2000s with insulation that has compacted well below the original spec.
Batt Insulation Replacement in Midtown Sacramento

The problem: a Midtown duplex with batt insulation that had gone damp from years of bathroom venting into the attic. The material was moldy and doing almost nothing. We pulled out the old batts, sealed the vent leaks that caused the moisture, and installed fresh Knauf batts cut to fit each joist bay. The result: a dry attic, a warmer second floor in winter, and no more freeze-thaw cycling on the roof deck. This is the kind of job where the before photo tells the whole story.
Spray Foam Rim Joist Sealing in Curtis Park

The problem: a Curtis Park home with a basement that never warmed up, no matter how high the thermostat went. The rim joist bays were wide open. We sealed the entire perimeter with Demilec spray foam, closing the air path between the basement and the outside. The result: the basement held heat within a day, and the furnace ran noticeably less. Rim joist sealing is one of the highest-impact jobs we do for the cost, and the before and after temperature difference is easy to measure.
Attic Insulation Top-Off in Elk Grove

The problem: an Elk Grove home with insulation that barely covered the joists. Downstairs stayed comfortable, but the upstairs bedrooms baked all summer. We blew GreenFiber cellulose across the attic to bring everything up to R-38, including the garage ceiling and the knee walls the previous installer skipped. The result: the upstairs now stays within a few degrees of the rest of the house. The homeowner mentioned that the street noise quieted down too, which is a side effect of full-depth cellulose that a lot of people don’t expect.
